International Nurses Week was celebrated at Silver Oaks College Of Nursing, Village Abhipur, Mohali from 14th May 2012 to 18th May 2012 under the supervision of Dr. (Mrs.) Kiran Batra and the SNA unit of the college. The Theme of this year Nurses week was “Closing the gap: from evidence to action”. The whole week was full of various educational activities conducted by teachers and students. Dr. (Mrs.) Kiran Batra Principle, inaugurated the Nurses week celebrations by lighting the Lamp followed by the pledge ceremony and cake cutting ceremony to mark the birthday of Florence Nightingale. A poster competition and declamation contest was also organised for the students.
Based upon the theme a seminar was also organized by the students of B.Sc Nursing 4th year and PB B.Sc Nursing 2nd year under the guidance of Ms. Rekha. Everyone gained a lot from this seminar.
GNM IIIrd year students organized a school health camp at Govt Primary School, Village Abhipur under the supervision of Community teachers. About 40-50 students of class 1-5 were examined and health education was imprarted to them. A role play was also organized by the students in same community which gave the message on Prevention and management of Malaria.
A scientific session on CPR was carried out by Ms. Jaspreet. A total of 37 students participated in this session. Pre and post assessment of the students was done. It proved to be a very educative experience for all those present and a lot was gained out of it.
At the end of the week the winners of poster making and declamation contest were being awarded with certificate by Dr. (Mrs.) Kiran Batra (Principle). She encouraged the students to think critically and to follow the evidence based nursing which helps to provide quality nursing care to the needy and healthy. More and more educational programmes should be carried out to make the nursing personnel aware about the EBP/EBN.
